Background and project aims: The Davies group has a longstanding interest in the discovery and exploration of efficient new transformations using gold catalysis

About the position:

  1. This project will explore new hybrid gold –peptide catalysts for effective asymmetric gold catalysis.
  2. Our goal is to develop more sustainable organic synthesis through the design and study of new catalysts for complex molecular transformations in water.
  3. We are looking to hire a skilled researcher to develop the synthetic chemistry and catalytic methodology required to establish and explore these new catalyst systems.
  4. The appointed researcher will be based in the School of Chemistry and will work under the guidance of Dr Paul Davies.
  5. This project is part of a multidisciplinary project in close collaboration with Dr Anna Peacock (bioinorganic chemistry) and the researcher will work closely with a second postdoctoral researcher to be appointed later in the project.

Eligibility Criteria

  • First degree in Chemistry and completion of (or approaching completion of) a PhD in organic synthesis or equivalent qualifications or equivalent post doctoral experience
  • Experienced in the development of effective new methodology for organic synthesis
  • Experienc in synthetic chemistry, enantioselective and/or transition metal catalysed method development, or mechanistic studies
  • Knowledge of supermolecular interactions is desirable
  • Fluency in models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones in the fields of transition metal catalysis and asymmetric catalysis/synthesis
