We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD student in the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham, within the research groups of Professors Neil Champness and Graham Newton.

  1. The selected applicant will be part of the Faraday Institution PhD programme working to develop the next generation of batteries (https://faraday.ac.uk/education-skills/phd-researchers/).
  2. The successful applicant will work as part of a collaborative research programme entitled “Porous Materials for Next Generation Li-S Batteries”.
  3. The project will focus on the development of porous materials including metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and polyoxometalate materials (POMs) as membranes to control diffusion processes in Li-S batteries.

Required Qualifications:

  1. The studentship is fully-funded for 48 months starting in October 2020. The Faraday Institution Cluster PhD researchers receive an enhanced stipend over and above the standard EPSRC offer.
  2. The total annual stipend is approximately £20,000 plus an additional £7,000 annually to cover training and travel costs.
