Max Planck School of Photonics (MPSP)

The MPSP offers a program structured in two phases. Within the first phase, we call it the study phase, candidates obtain a photonics master’s degree from one of three teaching universities in Erlangen, Jena or Karlsruhe.

Offered study program:

  1. M.Sc. Advanced Optical Technologies – MAOT program in Erlangen-Nuremberg
  2. M.Sc. Photonics – ASP program in Jena
  3. M.Sc. Optics and Photonics – KSOP program in Karlsruhe

For Research Phase, the PhD topics are offered in different research fields:

– Advanced Imaging – Attosecond Physics – Biophotonics – Fiber Optics – Laser Source Development – Nanophotonics – Nanoscopy – Optical Design – Optical Communication – Quantum Optics – Strongfield Physics – Ultrafast Imaging – X-ray Science

Qualifications / Application

  1. Bachelor and/or Master of Science/ Engineering/ Technology with significant exposure to physics, electrical engineering, chemistry, photonics or a related subject. If you have not yet finished your degree, you may apply likewise with a preliminary official transcript (university’s certified statement of your academic record).
  2. At least two referees who can attest to your academic, professional, and/or research abilities in the context of your interest in pursuing a graduate degree.
